Amish White Bread

A warm and fluffy bread recipe that fills your home with delightful aromas and creates cherished memories.

Ingredients

  • Warm Water (1 ½ cups)
  • Sugar (¼ cup)
  • Active Dry Yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons or 1 packet)
  • Salt (1 teaspoon)
  • Vegetable Oil (¼ cup)
  • All-Purpose Flour (4-5 cups)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top, then let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s frothy and bubbly.
  2. Mix in ingredients: Add the salt and vegetable oil to your yeast mixture. Slowly start adding the all-purpose flour, one cup at a time.
  3. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl and let it rise for about 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the loaf: Punch the dough down and shape it into a loaf.
  6. Second rise: Place your shaped loaf into a greased loaf pan and let it rise for about 30-45 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Cool: Transfer the bread to a wire rack and let it cool before slicing.

Notes
