Cinnamon Swirl Bread

A cozy and delightful cinnamon swirl bread that is perfect for breakfast, snacks, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the yeast: In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let it bloom for about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, remaining sugar, and salt.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: Once your yeast is bloomed, add the melted butter and the egg to the yeast mixture. Stir until combined!
  4. Combine wet and dry: Pour the yeast mixture into the dry ingredients bowl. Use a spatula to mix it together until a rough dough forms.
  5. Knead it out: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes.
  6. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour.
  7. Prepare the filling: While the dough is rising, mix together the cinnamon and sugar for the filling.
  8. Shape the dough: After the dough has risen, gently punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle—about 12 x 18 inches.
  9. Spread the filling: Brush the dough with melted butter and sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mix evenly over the top.
  10. Roll it up: Starting from one end, roll the dough tightly towards the other end. Pinch the seams to seal it.
  11. Second rise: Place the rolled dough in a greased loaf pan and cover it again, letting it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  12. Preheat the oven: While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  13. Bake it up: Once the dough has risen, bake it in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes.
  14. Cool down: Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack.

Notes

Slice the bread while it’s still slightly warm and consider pairing it with butter or cream cheese. It can also be served with fresh fruit or maple syrup.
