Easy Chinese Beef and Broccoli

A classic Chinese beef and broccoli stir-fry that’s quick to make and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin
  • 2 cups broccoli, cut into florets
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • ½ cup water
  • Vegetable oil (for cooking)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef by slicing against the grain into thin strips and tossing with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Let marinate for 15-30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the broccoli by blanching it in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then draining and cooling under cold water.
  3. Make the sauce by whisking together remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, minced garlic, water, and cornstarch.
  4. Stir-fry the beef in a hot pan with vegetable oil for 2-3 minutes until browned, then remove from the pan.
  5. Cook the blanched broccoli in the same pan for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Combine the beef back into the pan with broccoli, pour the sauce over, and stir to coat, cooking until thickened.
  7. Drizzle with additional sesame oil before serving.

Notes

This dish is best served hot over rice or noodles for a complete meal. Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
