Dutch Oven Bread

A warm and crusty Dutch oven bread that’s simple to make and incredibly rewarding.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Instant Yeast
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 ½ cups Warm Water
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • Optional Add-ins: Cheese, herbs, or garlic

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and instant yeast. Give it a good whisk to ensure they’re evenly distributed.
  2. Add warm water and olive oil. Using a wooden spoon or your hands, mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough back in the bowl, cover it with a damp kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 to 2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Flour your counter, gently deflate the dough, and shape it into a round loaf. Rest for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) with the Dutch oven inside.
  7. Carefully transfer your dough into the hot Dutch oven, cover it, and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the lid and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Transfer the bread to a wire rack to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
