Homemade Healthy Cheez-Its

A healthier twist on the classic Cheez-It snack, made with wholesome ingredients and bursting with flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Ice water as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the whole wheat flour, salt, and optional spices in a mixing bowl.
  3. Add the shredded cheddar cheese until well mixed.
  4. Incorporate the softened unsalted butter until crumbly.
  5. Add ice water gradually, mixing until the dough comes together.
  6. Roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Cut the dough into small 1-inch squares.
  8. Bake on a parchment-lined baking sheet for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Cool on a wire rack after baking.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For variations, try adding herbs or spices to the dough.
